Domaine Dureuil-Janthial Rully Blanc 2022

Dureuil-Janthial's village Rully Blanc is drawn from five organically managed plots, some of them approaching a century old.

Rully sits at the northern end of the Côte Chalonnaise, just south of the Côte de Beaune, on limestone slopes that have long produced white Burgundy of good value. Vincent Dureuil has been the district's leading name for two decades, farming organically and working with a precision more often associated with the grander communes to the north. This village white comes from La Martelle, La Bergerie, En Guesnes, Chaponnière and the younger vines of Le Meix Cadot. The average vine age is over forty years, with the oldest approaching a hundred — a remarkable figure for the region and a large part of the wine's concentration. It is vinified entirely in barrel, with 20 per cent new oak, mostly from the cooper Chassin. The result carries far more chalky tension and flesh than the village level usually delivers.

Drink over the next five to eight years. Serve at 10 to 12°C with roast chicken, grilled fish or a soft washed-rind cheese.
