Description
Domaine Dureuil-Janthial Rully Blanc Maizières is a single-vineyard white from a sunny lieu-dit east of the village.
Rully is the northernmost of the Côte Chalonnaise's white appellations, and Vincent Dureuil-Janthial is its most closely watched grower. Maizières sits east of the village on a warm exposure and was planted in 1997 to both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The domaine farms two hectares here organically; the Pinot Noir goes into the Rully Rouge, while the Chardonnay is bottled separately as this wine. The soils are a lighter clay and limestone mix than in the domaine's Premier Cru sites, and the combination of warmth and lighter ground gives a wine that is noticeably more generous than the straight village Rully, with rounder fruit and a softer line, without losing the chalky finish that marks the domaine's whites.
Good on release and worth keeping four or five years. Serve at 10–12°C with roast chicken, pork terrine or a creamy pasta.
