Description
Domaine Dureuil-Janthial Rully Rouge is a village red drawn from three organically farmed plots with an average vine age of about fifty years.
Rully sits at the northern end of the Côte Chalonnaise, a commune better known for white wine but with a growing reputation for Pinot Noir grown on its clay and limestone slopes. Vincent Dureuil is the reference grower of the appellation and farms organically. This cuvée comes from three plots totalling just under three hectares: Le Meix Cadot, Rosey and Montagne de Remenot. The vines now average around fifty years, which shows in the depth of a wine at village level. A small proportion of whole bunches went into the fermentation, preceded by a pre-ferment cold soak in the manner of Henri Jayer to draw out perfume and softer tannin, and the wine was raised for twelve months in one-third new oak. Australian allocations are very small.
Approachable at two years and good for six to eight. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, coq au vin or a mushroom and lentil braise.
