Description
This Rully rouge is an unusually broad blend, gathering several of Dureuil-Janthial's village lieux-dits that are normally bottled separately.
Rully makes about a third of its wine in red, from Pinot Noir grown on clay and limestone at the northern end of the Côte Chalonnaise. Vincent Dureuil-Janthial is the appellation's leading grower and usually bottles his village parcels individually; in a small year they are combined. The blend here brings together Le Meix Cadot, Rosey and Montagne de Remenot, just under three hectares in total, along with Maizières and En Guesnes, a cool site tucked behind Meix Cadot. The average vine age is around fifty years. After a strict selection, the grapes were destemmed and loaded into large old wooden fermenters, held at 7°C and allowed to ferment naturally, slowly and at length. The wine matured eighteen months in one-third new oak and was bottled unfiltered on the lunar calendar.
Good now and for another eight years; serve at 16–18°C with roast duck, game birds or mushroom dishes.
