Domaine Dureuil-Janthial Rully Rouge 2022

Domaine Dureuil-Janthial Rully Rouge is drawn from three organically managed plots of 50-year-old vines totalling just under three hectares.

Rully is the northernmost village of the Côte Chalonnaise, and Vincent Dureuil-Janthial has done more than anyone to raise expectations of what it can produce. His village red comes from Le Meix Cadot, Rosey and Montagne de Remenot, all farmed organically, with an average vine age of about 50 years. The wine is fermented with a small proportion of whole bunches and matured for twelve months in oak, a third of it new. Dureuil favours a Jayer-style cold soak before fermentation, drawing out the prettier aromatics and softening the tannins, which suits Rully’s naturally bright, red-fruited character. The result is a touchstone for the appellation: perfumed and detailed rather than heavy, with the structure to hold for some years.

Approachable now and holding for six to eight years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, duck or a mushroom risotto.
