Description
Domaine Faiveley Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is a white Burgundy from one of the smallest grand crus on the hill of Montrachet.
Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet lies entirely within Puligny-Montrachet, immediately beside Bâtard itself, on a gentle slope of limestone and marl covering under four hectares in all and divided among a good many owners. The curious name is generally taken to record a welcome, and the vineyard has been separately delimited since the Burgundian appellations were drawn up in the 1930s. Faiveley, a family house founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825, built its name on the reds of the Côte de Nuits and has spent recent decades assembling white vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. The fruit is whole bunch pressed, fermented in barrel and aged on its lees, with new oak used sparingly.
Serve at around 12 degrees with turbot, lobster or a poached chicken in cream; give it several years in the cellar first.
