Description
Domaine Faiveley Chambertin Clos De Beze Grand Cru is a red Burgundy from the vineyard that many hold to be the finest in Gevrey-Chambertin.
Clos de Bèze was planted by the abbey of Bèze in the seventh century, which makes it one of the oldest continuously worked vineyards in France, and it is the only grand cru entitled to sell its wine under the name of its neighbour, Chambertin. It runs along the mid slope above the village on thin soils over limestone. Faiveley, founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825, holds one of the larger shares of the fifteen hectare climat and has farmed it for well over a century. Fruit is sorted parcel by parcel, fermented in small batches and matured in French oak barrel.
Decant and serve at around 16 degrees with game, beef or a mature Époisses; give it at least ten years and it will keep for many more.
