Description
Domaine Faiveley Corton Clos des Cortons Faiveley Grand Cru Monopole is the only grand cru in Burgundy whose appellation carries a producer's name.
The Clos des Cortons is a walled monopole on the hill of Corton, in the commune of Ladoix-Serrigny, held by the Faiveley family since the nineteenth century; the right to attach the family name to the appellation was established in the courts and remains unique in Burgundy. It covers a little under three hectares on the mid slope, where the limestone and marl of the Corton hill lie beneath the cap of woodland that crowns it. Faiveley was founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825 and is now in its seventh generation. This is the house's flagship red, vinified separately in small lots and matured in French oak barrel.
Decant and serve at around 16 degrees with game or beef, and cellar it for at least a decade; a format that suits a wine of this longevity.
