Description
Domaine Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos des Issarts Monopole is a walled Premier Cru vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin held exclusively by Faiveley.
Burgundy is a patchwork of shared climats, so a monopole, a vineyard belonging to one owner alone, is a scarce thing. Clos des Issarts is a small enclosed Premier Cru parcel in Gevrey-Chambertin, farmed and bottled by Faiveley without a single other proprietor. The commune lies at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits, where the Combe de Lavaux funnels cool air across a slope of limestone scree and clay. The house has been established at Nuits-Saint-Georges since 1825. Under Erwan Faiveley, the seventh generation, who took charge in 2005, sorting has tightened and both extraction and new oak have been eased back in favour of transparency to site.
A wine for game, roast lamb or aged Comté, served at around 16 degrees, and one worth keeping for a decade.
