Description
Domaine Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru 'Petite Chapelle' is a Premier Cru from the stretch of Gevrey that runs directly beneath the Grand Cru of Chapelle-Chambertin.
Petite Chapelle lies on the lower slope in the southern half of the commune, below Chapelle-Chambertin, which takes its name from a chapel raised there in the twelfth century by the monks of Bèze. The soils on this lower ground are deeper and carry more clay than those higher up the hill, and the vineyard sits close to the boundary with Morey-Saint-Denis. Gevrey-Chambertin is the largest commune of the Côte de Nuits and the only one with nine Grands Crus. Faiveley, founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825 and now in its seventh generation, works each Gevrey parcel separately, sorting carefully and ageing in French oak.
Serve at about 16 degrees alongside roast lamb, duck or a mushroom risotto. It has the frame to develop over eight to twelve years.
