Description
Domaine Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru 'Les Cazetiers' is a Premier Cru from the steep slope above the village, long counted among the finest climats in Gevrey.
Les Cazetiers runs along the hillside beside Clos Saint-Jacques, north of the village and above the road, on thin stony soil over limestone with a favourable south-easterly tilt. It is one of the climats regularly named when growers argue that Gevrey's leading Premiers Crus deserve Grand Cru standing. The commune is the largest of the Côte de Nuits and holds nine Grands Crus, more than any other in Burgundy. Faiveley was founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825 and is now run by the seventh generation of the family; the fruit is hand-picked, sorted twice, fermented traditionally and matured in French oak barrels.
A wine for roast lamb, game birds or aged hard cheese, served near 16 degrees. It is worth cellaring for a decade or more.
