Description
Domaine Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 'Vieilles Vignes' is a village Pinot Noir drawn from older plantings in the largest and most celebrated commune of the Côte de Nuits.
Gevrey-Chambertin sits towards the northern end of the Côte de Nuits and holds nine Grands Crus, more than any other village in Burgundy. Its vineyards spread from the mouth of the Combe de Lavaux across a broad apron of limestone scree and clay, which gives village wines here an unusual depth for their rank. Faiveley was founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825 and is now run by the seventh generation of the family, with holdings across the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise. The fruit is sorted parcel by parcel, fermented in the traditional manner and matured in French oak, only a modest share of it new.
Good with roast duck, mushroom dishes or a simply grilled steak, served at around 16 degrees. It will hold comfortably for several years.
