Description
Domaine Faiveley Ladoix 'Les Marnes Blanches' Blanc is a Chardonnay from Ladoix-Serrigny, the northernmost village of the Côte de Beaune and the least known of the three communes on the hill of Corton.
Ladoix-Serrigny sits where the Côte de Nuits gives way to the Côte de Beaune, its vineyards climbing the northern flank of Corton. Part of the commune is entitled to the Grand Cru appellations of Corton and Corton-Charlemagne, yet its own wines remain among the better value on the slope. The cuvée name refers to the white marl, the pale calcareous clay that runs through these hillsides and suits Chardonnay particularly well. Faiveley, founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825 and now in its seventh generation, presses whole bunches for its white wines and ferments and ages them in barrel with only a light touch of new oak.
Serve at 11 to 13 degrees with shellfish, roast chicken or a soft washed-rind cheese. It drinks well young and holds for a few years.
