Description
Domaine Faiveley Mazis Chambertin Grand Cru is a Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru that lies directly north of Chambertin Clos de Bèze, at the very top of the Gevrey hierarchy.
Mazis-Chambertin runs along the mid-slope above the village and is spoken of in two parts: an upper section, Mazis-Haut, on shallow stony soil close to the bedrock, and a lower stretch, Mazis-Bas, where the soil deepens towards the road. Faiveley is among the largest owners of the vineyard. The house was founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825 and is now in its seventh generation; Georges Faiveley helped found the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin in 1934. Grand Cru parcels are picked by hand, sorted twice, fermented in small vats and aged in French oak barrels.
Serve at around 16 degrees with roast game, beef or a mature hard cheese.
