Description
Domaine Faiveley Mercurey Clos Rochette Blanc Monopole is a Chardonnay from a walled vineyard in the Côte Chalonnaise held entirely by the Faiveley family.
Mercurey is known above all for red wine, and Chardonnay accounts for only a small share of its plantings, so a white from a single enclosed site here is something of a rarity. Clos Rochette is a monopole, farmed and bottled by Faiveley alone, on limestone soils in the hills around the village. The Côte Chalonnaise runs south from the Côte de Beaune on broken, slightly higher ground, which keeps acidity firm in the whites. The house was founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825 and is now in its seventh generation; the whites are whole-bunch pressed, fermented in barrel and aged on lees with little new oak.
Serve at 11 to 13 degrees with seafood, roast poultry or a goat's cheese salad. It is best drunk within about five years.
