Description
Domaine Faiveley Meursault 1er Cru Charmes is a Chardonnay from the largest and most widely admired of the Meursault Premiers Crus.
Charmes lies mid-slope on the Puligny side of the village, below Perrières and beside Genevrières, and covers more ground than any other Premier Cru in the commune. Its name has nothing to do with charm; it derives from chaume, an old word for worked or fallow land. The vineyard is usually described in two halves, a steeper upper part on stony limestone and a flatter lower section on deeper soil. Meursault is the largest white wine commune of the Côte de Beaune and has no Grand Cru, so the reputation of the appellation rests on climats such as this one. Faiveley, at Nuits-Saint-Georges since 1825, presses whole bunches and ages in barrel with measured new oak.
Serve at 12 to 13 degrees with lobster, roast chicken or veal in a cream sauce. It will develop over eight to twelve years.
