Description
Domaine Faiveley Rully 'Les Villeranges' Blanc is a white Burgundy from the Cote Chalonnaise, the stretch of hills south of the Cote d'Or where Burgundy is still, mercifully, affordable.
Rully sits at the northern end of the Cote Chalonnaise and is chiefly white wine country, planted to Chardonnay on marl and limestone slopes that face east and south east. The village has a long association with sparkling wine, having been an early centre of that trade in the nineteenth century, though today its reputation rests on still whites. Faiveley has been in the same family since 1825, when the house was founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges, and it is now one of the largest vineyard owners in Burgundy, with holdings from Chablis down to the Cote Chalonnaise. Its Chalonnaise wines are treated with the same care as the grander addresses further north. Les Villeranges is a named parcel within the appellation. The wine is barrel fermented and left on its lees, with new oak used sparingly.
A versatile white for roast chicken, pork, creamy pasta or a plate of oysters, best served at about 11 to 12 degrees.
