Domaine François Chidaine Le Chenin d’Ici 2023

Domaine François Chidaine Le Chenin d’Ici is a dry Chenin Blanc drawn from small parcels across Touraine, roughly half estate fruit and half purchased.

Touraine spans the middle Loire around Tours, and Chenin Blanc reaches its best here in Vouvray and Montlouis-sur-Loire, on flinty clay and tuffeau limestone. François Chidaine farms in both appellations and created this label after losing sixty per cent of his crop in a difficult season, when he approached contacts across Touraine to secure small parcels of Chenin. The wine, whose name translates as the Chenin from here, has stayed in the range since. It works out at roughly a fifty-fifty split of estate and purchased fruit, and includes grapes from a number of the domaine's own parcels in Vouvray and Montlouis. It is made in the same way as the estate cuvées, with no shortcuts taken for its price point. The result is dry, fleshy and saline, with a silky core and the stone-fruit length that marks out Chidaine's Chenin.

Ready now and will hold five years or more. Serve at 10-12°C with roast pork, smoked trout or a mature Cheddar.
