Domaine François Chidaine Montlouis Brut Nature 2008

Domaine François Chidaine Montlouis Brut Nature is a traditional-method sparkling Chenin Blanc disgorged after twelve years on lees and bottled without dosage.

Montlouis-sur-Loire faces Vouvray across the river and has long been a source of fine sparkling Chenin Blanc, made by the traditional method on the same tuffeau limestone. François Chidaine, based at Husseau, is widely acknowledged in France as one of the Loire's great sparkling-wine craftsmen; Benjamin Dagueneau enlisted his help when trialling his own sparkling. This cuvée carries no dosage at all, so it depends entirely on ripeness and long lees ageing for its shape. It spent twelve years on lees before disgorgement in April 2021, and the extended contact shows in the salty, marine and truffled character and in the firmness of the palate, which still has considerable structure, purity and persistent minerality.

Mature but far from tiring, and good for several more years; serve at 8°C with oysters, roast chicken or aged Comté.
