Description

Domaine François Chidaine Baudoin is grown entirely in the Clos Baudoin in Vouvray but sold as Vin de France for reasons of appellation law.

The wine is 100% Vouvray fruit, yet it cannot carry the name. AOC rules require a wine labelled Vouvray to be matured within the boundaries of Vouvray itself, and Chidaine's cellars are across the river in Montlouis, so the appellation had to be dropped from the label; the word clos is also not permitted on a Vin de France, which is why the wine appears simply as Baudoin. The Clos Baudoin sits on the crest of a hill above the surrounding countryside, covers 2.7 hectares and carries vines averaging more than 70 years of age on clay and limestone over deep tuffeau subsoil. It was once the source of the celebrated Prince Poniatowski Vouvrays, and since buying it in 2001 Chidaine has restored it through biodynamic farming.

Worth cellaring for a decade or longer, though already open. Serve at 10-12°C with roast pork, scallops or an aged comté.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
