Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Bourgogne Blanc Les Gravièrs 2022

Ghislaine Barthod's Bourgogne Blanc Les Gravièrs is the Chambolle-Musigny domaine's first commercially released white wine.

Barthod is best known for a long line of Chambolle premiers crus, so a white from the estate is a genuine novelty. Ghislaine and her son Clément planted half a hectare of Chardonnay in the mid-to-late 2010s, and the wine reached the market with the 2020 harvest. The vines sit at Gilly-lès-Cîteaux, on the flat land east of the Côte, close to the Les Bons Bâtons parcel that supplies the domaine's Bourgogne Rouge. The vineyard name points to the stony, gravelly ground beneath the vines. In the cellar, Clément has settled on a split ageing regime: half the wine in used 500-litre oak casks, with weekly bâtonnage to build texture on the lees, and half in terracotta jars, which keep the fruit direct and unmarked by wood.

Approachable on release and good for three to five years in the cellar; serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled white fish or a soft washed-rind cheese.
