Description
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Bourgogne Rouge Les Bons Bâtons comes from a single rocky parcel of fifty-year-old vines on the edge of Chambolle.
Les Bons Bâtons lies at Gilly-lès-Cîteaux, on the flat ground east of the Route Nationale below Chambolle-Musigny, and is among the better-known named sites in the Bourgogne appellation. Barthod's holding runs to 1.5 hectares of vines more than fifty years old, planted on a site far rockier than most regional-level ground in the Côte de Nuits, which is a good part of why the wine punches above its classification. It is farmed and vinified exactly as the domaine's village and premier cru wines are, with each parcel handled separately and only 10 per cent new oak, and yields are kept very low. In practice it reads much like a well-made village Chambolle.
Drinking well on release and capable of five to ten years in the cellar. Serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or a plate of Époisses.
