Domaine Goisot Irancy La Voie de Cravant 2019

Domaine Goisot Irancy La Voie de Cravant is an organically farmed, single-parcel Pinot Noir from the lower slopes of this northern Burgundian red appellation.

Irancy lies in the Yonne, close to Auxerre and not far from Chablis, and is the only appellation of northern Burgundy devoted to red wine. The climate is cool and the limestone is Kimmeridgian, the same seam that runs beneath Chablis, so the reds here are built on structure and freshness. La Voie de Cravant is a 0.30-hectare plot in the lower part of the appellation, facing west to south-south-west, on red clay scattered with Kimmeridgian stones. Guilhem Goisot took over the farming of the vines in 2018 from a friend who needed someone to manage the parcel, and the first release followed in 2019. The vines are young and the farming is organic. Altitude, exposition and those stony red clays together give a Pinot Noir with real depth and grip.

Drinking now and should hold comfortably for another five years or so. Serve at 16-18°C with braised beef cheek, roast pigeon or a mushroom tart.
