Domaine Guffens-Heynen Saint-Véran Cuvée Unique 2024

Domaine Guffens-Heynen Cuvée Unique is the only Saint-Véran in the range, blended from all of the domaine’s parcels in the appellation.

Saint-Véran runs in two bands around Pouilly-Fuissé in the southern Mâconnais, and its best sites at Davayé and Prissé sit on the same limestone as their more famous neighbour. Guffens-Heynen, established at Vergisson in 1976, draws this cuvée from every parcel it holds in the appellation, among them La Combes, Clos de Poncetys and Les Carettes. Clos des Poncetys lies below the Vergisson rock and Jean-Marie Guffens has called it the Chevalier-Montrachet of Davayé, a reference to the steepness, the rocky limestone soil and the purity and concentration the site can deliver. La Combes faces south and brings freshness, while Les Carettes, a clay-based terroir at Davayé strewn with white stones, provides the ballast. The domaine’s usual very low yields and long, unhurried élevage apply, and the assembled wine is ripe, fleshy and firmly structured.

Good on release and better at three or four years. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled prawns or a semi-hard cheese.
