Description
Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Blanc is Chenin Blanc grown on the chalk in and around Brézé, one of the great white-wine hills of the Loire.
Saumur Blanc is Chenin planted on tuffeau, the soft chalky limestone that also built the châteaux of the region, and the hill of Brézé has long been its reference point. Domaine Guiberteau farms several of the named clos on and around it. This bottling draws on younger vines in Clos de Guichaux and Clos des Carmes, old vines from the Bas de Pentes terroir of Brézé itself, and a portion of Les Chapaudaises at Bizay. Clos des Carmes is the pick of them, sitting on the chalky mother rock just below the Château de Brézé. Plantings across the parcels run from 1935 to 2012, so there is a real core of old-vine material in the blend, and the wine has the density and mineral drive that these sites are known for.
Approachable now but will develop for eight years or more. Serve at 11-12°C with roast chicken, pork belly with apple or a mature cheddar.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
