Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Clos de Guichaux Blanc 1.5L MAGNUM 2017

Domaine Guiberteau Clos de Guichaux is a monopole Saumur Blanc from a historically renowned vineyard near Brézé, in magnum.

Saumur's white wines are pure Chenin Blanc grown on tuffeau, the soft chalky limestone that also gives the region its cellars, and the finest sites lie around the hill of Brézé. Guiberteau's 1.4 hectares at Clos de Guichaux sit in the Bizay terroir in the small village of Épieds, close by. The vineyard is the classic clay and limestone mix of the area but with only 30 centimetres of topsoil, so roots go straight into pure chalky bedrock. That shallowness is the reason the site gives such taut, mineral Chenin, and it is quickly establishing itself as one of Saumur's best white vineyards. The magnum format will slow its development considerably.

Drinking now and capable of fifteen years in this format. Serve at 10-12°C with roast pork, grilled john dory or a mature goat's cheese.
