Domaine Henri Germain Beaune 1er Cru Bressandes comes from a parcel of mature vines high on the Beaune slope, in a cru that shares its name with the grand cru Bressandes on the hill of Corton.

Beaune is the largest appellation of the Côte de Beaune and is made up in large part of premier cru land, with Les Bressandes sitting high on the slope above the town. The name is shared with the Bressandes climat on Corton, a few kilometres to the north; both take it from Jean Bressand, a thirteenth-century canon of Beaune who once held the land. Domaine Henri Germain is better known as a Meursault white wine address, and its reds are made in small volumes from long-held family parcels. The holding here is a single plot high on the slope, planted between 1960 and 1965, bordered by the vines of David Croix. Old vines on thin, well-drained upper-slope ground give a pure, finely drawn style of Beaune rather than a broad or heavily extracted one.

Approachable after a year or two in bottle and worth keeping for five to eight. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom risotto or a plate of charcuterie.
