Description
Domaine Henri Germain Bourgogne Aligoté is a rare bottling from a single old plot of Aligoté sitting inside Meursault.
Aligoté is Burgundy's second white grape, long treated as an afterthought but increasingly taken seriously where the vines are old and the site is good. This comes from a single plot planted in 1976 in a terroir known as Les Plançons in Meursault, so the fruit carries a village pedigree the appellation cannot state on the label. The grapes were harvested in mid-September, late for the season, and the wine was then aged for twelve months, half in wood and half in tank. It was blended and rested for a further five months in tank before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. That handling keeps the variety's natural bite intact while giving it a little more flesh than Aligoté usually shows, and the domaine's Meursault know-how is evident in the finish.
Best drunk over the next three to five years. Serve at 10–12°C with charcuterie, gougères or a plate of freshly shucked oysters.
