Description
Germain's Bourgogne Côte d'Or Blanc is drawn from around a hectare spread across four terroirs in Meursault and Chassagne.
The Bourgogne Côte d'Or appellation exists to distinguish wines grown on the Côte d'Or itself from regional Bourgogne produced elsewhere in Burgundy, and in practice the best examples come from parcels sitting just outside village boundaries. Domaine Henri Germain's holdings for this wine total about a hectare: in Meursault, Les Belles Côtes just below Les Chevalières, Au Jardin, and Petit Clos, a genuine walled clos beside the winery in the centre of the village, along with a fourth parcel in Chassagne that came into production with the 2016 harvest. The winemaking follows the house pattern of whole-bunch pressing, barrel fermentation with very little new oak and extended ageing on lees, which is why the wine carries more depth and character than its appellation implies.
Drink over the next five or six years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, chicken terrine or a fresh goat's cheese.
