Domaine Henri Germain Bourgogne Côte d'Or Rouge 2021

Domaine Henri Germain Bourgogne Côte d'Or Rouge is made from two micro-parcels in Meursault, one of them the small clos directly behind the domaine's cellar.

The Bourgogne Côte d'Or appellation was created to distinguish regional wines grown on the Côte d'Or itself from Bourgogne made elsewhere in the region, and in practice it usually covers vines sitting just outside the village boundaries. Domaine Henri Germain, best known for its Meursault whites, makes this red in tiny volumes and it is not offered in every vintage. The fruit comes from two very small plots: Au Jardin, the garden-like clos behind the cellar, and the evocatively named Moulin à Judas, under Les Chevalières. Both are farmed and picked as carefully as the village parcels, and the winemaking is unshowy, with restrained extraction and no attempt to build weight through new oak. The result is a chiselled, red-fruited Bourgogne with more line and definition than the appellation usually suggests.

Ready on release and drinking well for four or five years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast pork, a charcuterie board or grilled mushrooms.
