Domaine Henri Germain Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Les Fairendes comes from the upper, stonier sector of a premier cru that covers more than twenty separate lieux-dits.

Morgeot is the largest premier cru in Chassagne-Montrachet and its quality varies with position. The finest parcels lie in the upper sector, above the main road, where the soils are poorer, whiter and more limestone-rich than the deeper ground below. Les Fairendes is one of these, sitting just under Les Caillerets, and growers in the village have long regarded it as among the best ground within Morgeot. Domaine Henri Germain is a small Meursault-based estate with a reputation built on restraint: the wines are fermented in barrel with a modest proportion of new oak, given a long élevage on lees and bottled without excessive intervention. The result here is chalky and driven rather than broad, with the depth and structure the site is known for.

Best from three to twelve years; serve with roast turbot, poultry in cream or a Comté soufflé at 10-12°C.
