Domaine Henri Germain Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 2022

Germain works six parcels of Charmes, most of them at the top of the vineyard where it abuts the Puligny Premiers Crus.

Charmes is the largest of Meursault's Premiers Crus and runs in two tiers, the upper Dessus on thinner soil over limestone and the lower Dessous on deeper, richer ground. Domaine Henri Germain has six parcels spread across both, although the bulk of the surface lies at the top of the slope, next to the Puligny-Montrachet Premiers Crus, which is often given as the reason his Charmes shows a more Puligny-like line than most. The youngest vines are thirty-five years old. Winemaking is unchanged and unhurried: whole-bunch pressing, barrel fermentation with restrained new oak and long ageing on lees. The wine combines the flesh the vineyard is known for with a firm, rocky finish.

Give it four or five years and drink over the following fifteen. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, scallops or gruyère.
