Description
Domaine Henri Germain Meursault 1er Cru Perrières is a single-barrel bottling from 0.16 hectares in Les Petites Perrières.
Les Perrières is widely held to be the finest premier cru in Meursault, its name a reference to the quarries that once worked the slope. Much of the soil is limestone debris, shallow and stony, ground that holds warmth while keeping the wine's line firm. Domaine Henri Germain farms just 0.16 hectares here, in the sector known as Les Petites Perrières, and the crop amounts to a single barrel. The method is the same across the range: whole-bunch pressing, natural fermentation, a long and patient élevage in barrel with a modest proportion of new wood, then a rest in tank before bottling. Germain's Perrières is not the lean, austere reading of this terroir that some growers favour, but a deep and powerful one, with the mineral cut of the site holding the richness in check.
Rewarding from around five years and capable of fifteen or more in a cool cellar. Serve at 10-12°C with roast bream, lobster or a well-aged Comté.
