Description
Domaine Henri Germain Meursault Perrières comes from 0.16 hectares in Les Petites Perrières, a fraction of the commune’s most highly regarded Premier Cru.
Les Perrières takes its name from the quarries that once worked this part of the Meursault hill, and much of its soil is limestone debris, thin over rock. It is the cru most often spoken of as deserving Grand Cru rank, and it gives white Burgundy that combines stony drive with underlying richness. Domaine Henri Germain, based in the village, farms just 0.16 hectares in the sector known as Les Petites Perrières and makes a correspondingly small quantity. The domaine’s approach rests on picking fully ripe fruit and a long, unhurried vinification with modest new oak, and the Perrières comes out deep and powerful rather than lean, without losing the mineral spine of the site. Alongside the estate’s Charmes it is generally regarded as its finest white.
Worth five years and capable of fifteen. Serve at 10-12°C with roast poultry, lobster or a mature hard cheese.
