Domaine Henri Germain Meursault 1er Cru Poruzots 2022

Germain's Poruzots parcel came from his father-in-law François Jobard and lies next door to the vines of Antoine Jobard.

Le Poruzot occupies the northern part of Meursault's Premier Cru slope, at the point where the aspect starts to turn east, and it tends to make earthy, slightly reserved wines with more depth and layering than the neighbouring Limozin. Domaine Henri Germain farms 0.25 hectares of thirty-five-year-old vines in the upper part of Le Poruzot Dessus, beneath the Narvaux lieu-dit. The plot was inherited from François Jobard, which makes Jean-François Germain and Antoine Jobard brothers-in-law as well as neighbours in the vineyard; both wines are shipped to Australia by Bibendum, so the comparison is easy to make. Germain's version is pressed whole, fermented in barrel with little new wood and given a long élevage on lees.

Best after four or five years and good for fifteen. Serve at 10-12°C with smoked fish, roast pork or a washed-rind cheese.
