Description
This is Henri Germain's village Meursault, blended from eight lieux-dits spread across the appellation.
Village Meursault is usually an assemblage, and the interest lies in which parcels go into it. Here Les Vireuils supplies racy minerality, Clos du Cromin on the Volnay hill brings depth and power, and Les Pellans, right on the Puligny border, adds freshness. Moulin à Judas and Dressoles make up part of the balance, and the most recent addition is a parcel of Les Corbins, a rocky vineyard on the Volnay side of the village with some vines dating to 1929. Those old plantings bring the average vine age for the cuvée to more than 50 years. The domaine, run by Jean-François and Lucie Germain, works in the traditional Meursault manner, with barrel fermentation, long ageing on lees and restrained use of new oak.
Approachable after a year or two and good for a decade. Serve at 10 to 12°C with roast chicken, scallops or a gruyère tart.
