Domaine Henri Germain Meursault Clos des Mouches Rouge 2023

Domaine Henri Germain Meursault Clos des Mouches Rouge is a walled monopole in a white-wine commune, planted entirely to Pinot Noir.

Meursault is known for Chardonnay, but a small amount of red is still made there, mostly at the Volnay end of the commune. The Clos des Mouches is a tiny monopole owned by Domaine Henri Germain, and although the official maps still show it as a white site, it is given over wholly to Pinot Noir. It lies near the Volnay border just south of Les Santenots, and the wine could legitimately be labelled Volnay; the family prefers to call a Meursault a Meursault. The vines are Pinot Fin, planted in 1949, and yields fall below 25 hectolitres per hectare. It is one of very few walled vineyards in the commune. The style is consistent from year to year: red-fruited, scented and supple rather than structural, with the clarity that marks the domaine’s work.

Approachable early and steady for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast pork, duck breast or a plate of charcuterie.
