Domaine Henri Germain Meursault Les Chevalières 2022

Les Chevalières is a chalky village lieu-dit high above Meursault, effectively an extension of the Premier Cru band across the hill.

The Premier Cru vineyards of Meursault run in a band across the middle of the slope, and Les Chevalières sits on the same line at much the same altitude, on very similar soils, but on the northern side of the village next to Les Rougeots. It is regularly cited as a site that would justify Premier Cru status. Domaine Henri Germain, based in the village, treats it as one of the benchmarks of the range. As with the domaine's Premiers Crus, the fruit is pressed in whole bunches, fermented in barrel with a low proportion of new oak and left long on lees before bottling, which gives a wine of depth and chalky drive rather than early charm.

Give it three years and drink over the following decade. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled prawns or comté.
