Description
Domaine Henri Germain Les Chevalières is a village Meursault from a chalky lieu-dit high on the slope that shares its soils and altitude with the commune’s Premiers Crus.
Les Chevalières lies above the village of Meursault, next to Les Rougeots, at the point where the band of Premier Cru vineyards running across the hill continues into land that was never classified. The soils and the elevation are much the same, which is why the lieu-dit regularly turns out wines that would pass for Premier Cru in a blind tasting, and why growers hold on to their parcels here. The ground is chalky and the wines run cooler and tauter than those from the warmer mid-slope sites. Domaine Henri Germain, one of the quieter addresses in the village, picks ripe, ferments slowly and uses restrained new oak, so the wine keeps the clarity and stony edge of the site while carrying the breadth expected of Meursault.
Good from two years and worth keeping for ten. Serve at 10-12°C with roast fish, chicken with cream sauce or a mild hard cheese.
