Description
Domaine Henri Germain Savigny Les Beaune 1er Cru Aux Gravains Rouge is a new cuvée from a parcel of 1976 vines bought by the domaine in March 2021.
Aux Gravains takes its name from the light, sandy and gravelly soil that runs through it, and lies beneath the Combe d'Orange between Les Lavières and Aux Serpentières on the western side of Savigny-lès-Beaune. The light limestone ground here gives perfumed, floral lift and a silky, mouth-coating tannin rather than sheer weight. Domaine Henri Germain, based at Meursault and better known for its whites, took on the parcel just before the season began: the vines had not yet been pruned, and the domaine's habit of pruning late spared the vineyard from the frost that cut yields so severely elsewhere in the Côte d'Or that year. It is a promising start for a wine new to the range.
Drinking from two or three years and holding for eight to ten. Serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or a mushroom tart.
