Domaine Henri Germain Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Gravains Rouge 2022

Aux Gravains is a south-facing Premier Cru in the middle of the Savigny-lès-Beaune slope, and Domaine Henri Germain bought a parcel of 1976 vines here in 2021.

Savigny-lès-Beaune lies in a side valley north of Beaune, split by the Rhoin, and its Premiers Crus on the Pernand side are known for perfume and drinkability rather than weight. Aux Gravains takes its name from the light, sandy and gravelly soils of the site and sits between Les Lavières and Aux Serpentières. Cool air drawn down the Combe de Bouillon preserves freshness, while the light limestone soils give floral lift and silken, mouthcoating tannins. Jean-François and Lucie Germain run the domaine from Meursault, where the whites are the better-known part of the range, and the reds are made in the same unforced style. This vintage produced nine barrels, against four in the year before.

Drink from now to ten years, with roast duck, charcuterie or mushroom dishes, at 16°C.
