Domaine Henri & Philippe Jouan Coteaux Bourguignon Rouge Cuvée Thomas 2021

Domaine Henri & Philippe Jouan Coteaux Bourguignon Rouge Cuvée Thomas is the humblest wine in the range from a small and highly regarded Morey Saint Denis domaine.

Coteaux Bourguignons was created in 2011 as a regional appellation covering the whole of Burgundy, from Chablis down to the Beaujolais, replacing the old Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire. It permits Pinot Noir and Gamay for reds, together or separately, and growers use it for young vines, for parcels that fall outside the village boundaries and for lots that do not fit elsewhere. In the hands of a serious Côte de Nuits domaine that can make it disproportionately good value. Philippe Jouan, who took over from his father Henri, farms a handful of small parcels around Morey Saint Denis and works simply, with hand harvesting and ageing in used barrels.

Serve slightly cool, at around 14 degrees, with charcuterie, roast chicken or a simple beef stew.
