Description
Domaine Henri & Philippe Jouan Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Echézeaux is a village Burgundy from a named lieu dit within the largest commune of the Côte de Nuits.
Gevrey Chambertin has more vineyard than any other village on the Côte de Nuits and is home to nine Grands Crus, Chambertin and Clos de Bèze among them. Aux Echézeaux is a village level climat inside Gevrey and should not be confused with the Grand Cru Echézeaux, which lies further south at Flagey, beside Vosne Romanée. The domaine is run by Philippe Jouan from neighbouring Morey Saint Denis, following his father Henri, and its holdings across the two communes are very small. Winemaking is deliberately unshowy: hand picking, fermentation in open vats, gentle extraction and ageing in barrels of which few if any are new.
Give it five years or more and serve at around 15 degrees with beef, game or roasted root vegetables.
