Domaine Henri & Philippe Jouan Morey Saint Denis 2023

Domaine Henri & Philippe Jouan Morey Saint Denis is the home village wine of a small family domaine based in the commune itself.

Morey Saint Denis sits between Gevrey Chambertin and Chambolle Musigny on the Côte de Nuits, and is by some distance the smallest of the three. It is often described as the bridge between its neighbours, and it has five Grands Crus of its own, Clos de Tart and Clos de la Roche among them. The Jouan family is based in the village, where Philippe now makes the wines his father Henri made before him, from a scattering of small parcels. The approach is traditional and unhurried: hand harvesting, fermentation with native yeasts, restrained extraction and maturation in older barrels rather than new oak.

Serve at around 15 degrees with duck, roast lamb or mushrooms; it will improve over five to ten years.
