Domaine Hubert Lamy Chassagne-Montrachet La Goujonne Vieilles Vignes Rouge comes from clay-rich ground in the middle of a village better known for white.

Chassagne-Montrachet made its name with Chardonnay, but its lower-lying climats carry denser, clay-based soils that suit Pinot Noir well, and red was the commune's mainstay until well into the twentieth century. This wine comes from a 1.06-hectare plot in the middle of the village, planted in the 1960s. Olivier Lamy worked with roughly 50 per cent whole bunches, raised the cuvée in used barrels and added no sulphur at all until bottling. His reds have grown steadily more precise over the past decade, with more finesse and less extraction than the Chassagne reds of an earlier generation, and this bottling is a clear example of that shift. It also remains one of the better-value wines in the range.

Drink from two years and over the following eight. Serve at 16–18°C with roast pork, duck confit or a mushroom and thyme tart.
