Domaine Hubert Lamy Chassagne-Montrachet La Goujonne Vieilles Vignes Rouge comes from a hectare of 1960s vines on the dense clay soils in the middle of the village.

Chassagne-Montrachet is famous for white wine now, but its lower-lying climats, where the soils are deeper and more clay-rich, have always been better suited to Pinot Noir, and a good deal of red is still made here. La Goujonne is one such site. Olivier Lamy works a 1.06-hectare plot planted in the 1960s in the middle of the village. His red winemaking has become steadily more precise: roughly half whole bunches went into the fermentation, the wine was raised in used barrels with no new wood, and no sulphur was added until bottling. That combination gives a red with clear fruit definition and fine tannin rather than the rustic weight Chassagne rouge could once show.

Approachable at two years and good for eight. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, braised beef or a mushroom risotto.
