Domaine Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chatenière Vieilles Vignes 1.5L MAGNUM 2020

Domaine Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chatenière Vieilles Vignes, in magnum, is the domaine's most famous wine, from a walled site worked entirely by hand.

The Clos is a specific parcel enclosed by drystone walls within the larger Chatenière vineyard in Saint-Aubin. Lamy has 1.25 hectares here with sixty-year-old vines, and to all intents and purposes it is a monopole: he is the only grower able to bottle a separate wine from the site and label it as such, with Colin-Morey holding a small parcel that is blended into a wider La Chatenière bottling. It is a high, steep, south-facing vineyard set just around the bend from En Remilly and Les Murgers des Dents de Chien. The 40 per cent slope and rocky ground make machinery impossible, so everything is done by hand. Twenty centimetres of rocky topsoil over hard compact limestone gives the piercing minerality that offsets the low-yielding intensity.

The magnum will hold it back further; allow five years and drink over twenty. Serve at 10–12°C with turbot, roast chicken or Comté.
