Domaine Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chatenière Vieilles Vignes, here in magnum, comes from a walled clos that is in practice a monopole.

Clos de la Chatenière is the domaine's historically best-known wine, a dry-stone-walled enclosure within the larger Chatenière vineyard in Saint-Aubin. Lamy farms 1.25 hectares here from vines around sixty years old and is the only grower able to bottle a separate wine under the clos name; Colin-Morey holds a small parcel but blends it into a La Chatenière bottling, and the walls, site and farming mean the two should not be read as the same wine. The clos is high, steep and south-facing, set back around the bend from En Remilly and Les Murgers des Dents de Chien, and the 40 per cent slope and rocky ground mean all work is done by hand. Twenty centimetres of stony topsoil over compact limestone gives the piercing line that offsets the low-yielding concentration. Yields fell to 15 hl/ha after the frost.

Tightly wound in youth; give it four or five years and expect it to hold well beyond that in magnum. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled fish or a hard alpine cheese.
