Domaine Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chatenière Vieilles Vignes 1.5L MAGNUM 2022

Domaine Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chatenière Vieilles Vignes is a walled-clos premier cru worked entirely by hand, offered here in 1.5-litre magnum.

The clos lies within the wider Chatenière vineyard in Saint-Aubin, enclosed by dry-stone walls, and it is historically the domaine’s signature wine. Lamy has 1.25 hectares of 60-year-old vines in it. Chatenière is a high, steep, south-facing site set back and around the bend from En Remilly and Les Murgers des Dents de Chien, and its 40 per cent slope and rocky ground rule out machinery of any kind. In practice the clos is a monopole, since the only other holder, Colin-Morey, blends its small parcel into a broader La Chatenière bottling. The gradient and southerly aspect give the vines plenty of light, while 20 centimetres of rocky topsoil over hard compact limestone holds yields down and lends the wine its mineral drive.

Magnums develop more slowly; allow four to fifteen years. Serve at 10-12°C with turbot, roast veal or a plate of hard alpine cheeses.
