Description
Clos de la Chatenière is a walled premier cru on the slope directly above the village of Saint-Aubin, and this bottling comes from its oldest vines.
Saint-Aubin sits in the side valley behind Chassagne-Montrachet, and its premiers crus climb steep, stony ground where the topsoil is shallow and the limestone close to the surface. La Chatenière faces south-east high on that slope, catching the morning sun, and the combination of altitude and thin soil gives wines with a firm mineral line. Domaine Hubert Lamy has worked here for generations, and Olivier Lamy's vieilles vignes selection draws on the older plantings within the clos. The wine is pressed whole-bunch, fermented with natural yeasts and aged on its lees in barrel and larger cask, with no stirring and little new wood.
Good from release and better with three to seven years; serve at 10-12°C with scallops, roast chicken or a soft-rind cheese.
